The Case against The Amazing Spider-Man
Recently, fan love for the latest Spider-Man film has flooded the internet. But is it really justified? Granted, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are young, attractive, and good actors. On this basis, many have concluded that the movie is a success. This is false. While I agree with the critical consensus that the acting in the new film was fantastic, I found the script and direction to be extremely uneven. Some scenes are great and others are decidedly not-so-great. Overall, though, the movie is a failure because it’s not a coherent whole and because it’s not better than the alternative: a Marvel production of Spider-Man.
